Practioner FAQ

Are there any pre-requisites?

For those interested in becoming attuned to Reiki, I only require that you have experienced a Reiki healing session with me or another certified practitioner.
Otherwise, the only pre-requisites are an open mind, and a willingness to use Reiki for the benefit of yourself and others.

Does Reiki have anything to do with religion?

Reiki is not a religion. There is no particular belief system or spiritual doctrine required in order to become attuned or to practice Reiki.

Does giving a Reiki treatment make you tired?

A Reiki practitioner is channeling “Universal Life Energy” – the practitioner’s personal energy is not being used. As the Reiki practitioner channels the healing energy, he/she is also receiving and benefiting from the healing energy.

Is the Reiki flow affected by the health of the practitioner?

No. Though it is not advisable to perform ANY energetic or magickal working on another while feeling “under the weather”, a ill Reiki practitioner can still give treatments as strong and effective as a practitioner in good health. Giving yourself a Reiki treatment when you are sick will accelerate your healing process and raise the immune system.

Can Reiki be used with other therapies?

Yes. Reiki increases the effects of other alternative healing methods, such as acupuncture, massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, etc. Many practitioners of other healing methods become attuned to Reiki in order to enhance the effects of their work with clients.

Are there any harmful side effects from Reiki?

There have been no reported cases of negative side effects from Reiki treatment. During a treatment, the Reiki energy flows throughout the body and spirit in order to achieve the highest good. Some people suffering from a great deal of stress and/or emotional blocks may at first experience a mild emotional discomfort, as the energy “clears out” and helps to heal the negative habits, thoughts, and patterns which no longer serve them.

Does the Reiki flow the same in both hands?

With Reiki, there is no “giving” or “receiving” hand – the energy flows the same in hands, feet and the eyes as well! When a Reiki practitioner’s hands are placed near or on any living organism, the Reiki flow activates automatically.

What does Reiki energy feel like while giving a treatment?

Within a few seconds of placing hands on yourself or another, the palms may begin to pulse and will potentially become hot/cold, or start to tingle. These sensations may continue for the entirety of the treatment. On certain parts of the client’s body, the hands can become extremely hot. This implies that more healing energy is needed in this area.
However, it is important to note that the energy felt by the practitioner can be very different from what is felt by the client. For example, while the practitioner is feeling heat and tingling, the client may be feeling cold and stillness, or vice versa. Everyone experiences the energy of Reiki independently.

Can you use Reiki on animals and plants?

Animals respond very quickly to Reiki, and plants tend to bloom and thrive when sent Reiki energy. Methods and practice of healing animals and plants is covered in Reiki Levels II & III.
